Laptop is NOW Working Very Well
Well, on a much earlier post, one of my 1st few I believe, I mentioned about all the hardware woes I encountered. Well all is pretty much well now. The Toshiba Laptop took over 5 weeks for Best Buy to get repaired and returned to me. It seems their repair center(s) were very, very busy. They ended up replacing almost all the hardware except the keyboard. FORTUNATELY, I had a repair contract which, in fact saved me oodles of money $$$$. I’ll likely be extending it again at renewal time. A lot more expensive for a 2nd renewal, but if anything like this ever happens again, it will be WELL SPENT insurance. I also had them update the hard drive to a 500GB version; triple what I had before.
I wanted to upgrade to 4Gb Ram. Nothing that Best Buy had available would work. The Toshiba support gave me a lot of conflicting answers depending upon who I talked to at their tech support and what level of technical expertise I was assigned. I was looking for viable SOLUTIONS. Afterall, that’s what I want to base my business on. SOLUTIONS! As it turns out, the BEST solution is to contact your nearest TOSHIBA REPAIR CENTER and work with them to get it to happen. That’s the only RELIABLE way to go. They have the facilities, tools and expertise to do just about any upgrade. There’s one about 50 miles from me, but I have yet to find the time to call and get there.
Speaking of RAM, rumor from several tech support personnel tells me that Windows XP will not use much more than about 3GB to 3.5 GB. BUT you can’t put just 3.5 GB. I have 2 RAM slots and will need 2GB Rams. Guess I’ll get to that later.
